Train and owl Train files across the sky Crying out as it flies Night air carries the call the owl devours it all Train and owl.

Sediment is Sentimental Sed - i - ment is Sentimental each layer time sets down reminds me that it’s passed. My doctor checks my heart That creak/creek inside my chest I don’t know where to start Fits like a too small vest. After a heavy rain I step into the water Searching for anything Sediment, so sentimental fine grains of present sense remind me of the past. I have to watch my step In here snakes everywhere What fun to walk in the woods, when you have to take such care. The water carries downstream bits from the distant past look there’s an ancient pot Sediment, so sentimental. The thought: who held it last? Emotion for the past. Sediment is Sentimental each layer time sets down reminds me that it’s passed.

I sing of memes and the bandwidth streaming day and night those videos a million bits of memory fill my mind like silt and sand. Each hedgehog, cat, and panda cutely caught in a download Distracts from understanding What’s really living in our world Those images make it seem like animals are just a type of harmless toy, sweet and pure, just like me. Each spring when turtle hatchlings Pull themselves onto the sand I see behind their tracks the prints of otters like human hands. Which creature, prey or hunter is my kindred, mirrored in the hi-res laptop screen, I wonder If that’s all we’ve been. We humans are so humane animals in all but name biting clawing, scratching, drawing up plans atop the food chain.

Flood Plain 01:34
Flood Plain In a flood plain it doesn’t matter until the waters build a ladder to my home I already signed the forms because my house is in a zone that raging floods bury once a century In a flood plain it doesn’t matter until the waters take a jackhammer
to my home For three days straight it rained and poured Now the creek is at my door As I float out to sea i clutch my policy

about

For this Summer 2016 project I visited houses all around Peachtree Creek door-to door, interviewed homeowners there about living there, and wrote songs more or less directly from their words.

On August 6, 2016, I performed the four songs that resulted, with Zac Denton (keyboards, vocals).

about

Monumental Folly Atlanta, Georgia

Monumental Folly rather speaks for itself, yes? Monumental Folly also embraces a sheer willingness to leave things rough at the edges and to carry through improvisation from start to an often much-attenuated finish. Also singing, for which I apologize.
